The story behind NORMAL CULTURE.
I started came up with the name Normal Culture in 2009. I was home from college and feeling creative. I always knew that I wanted to start business or company of some sort, but I didn’t want to box myself in. It was important to me to create a brand name that could be used for multiple things.
Normal Culture the clothing brand was launched in 2016. I decided to use the name for my clothing line after I appeared on Bad Girls Club- s14. I wanted to have a way to grow with my fans over the coming years. Clothing and retail fashion seemed like the most organic and authentic way to be able to do so.
When Normal Culture made its debut onto the fashion scene, we started very humbly with hats and t-shirts. At the time, I was learning the ropes of being an entrpreneur. Being coined the “HOUSTON HUSTLER”, it only seemed right that I created a product that was reminiscent of the name. Thus, birthing the “HUSTLR'‘ dad cap. It was my very first product and I would sell the hats and t-shirts out of the trunk of my car every weekend outside of the bar I managed.
In 2019, I wanted to be taken more seriously as a fashion designer and an entrepreneur. So, I decided to teach myself how to sew. I wasn’t sure where the journey would take me, but I knew it would be rewarding as long as I trusted myself. In 2020 during the pandemic, it became very clear to me how important it was to be an entrepreneur and fully self-sufficient. In July of 2020 I launched my first cut and sew collection and moved into my first office space in Los Angeles, CA.
What is the meaning behind the name “NORMAL CULTURE”?
NORMAL is an oxymoron. What/Who is Normal? Nothing. No one.
CULTURE is the way we connect, vibe and resonate with the world.
NORMAL CULTURE IS BEING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF AND ALLOWING THAT ENERGY TO TRANSLATE INTO YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE THROUGH CLOTHING VIA ARTISTIC/VISUAL SELF-EXPRESSION.
